Vacation time

Oh, I am so glad it is Friday.  It has been a very long and slow day.  It just is not very busy between terms.  But next week I am off with the family.  We are camping for our 4th year in a row.  Everyone is really looking forward to it though I think a few people will miss the wifi.

Picked some books up at the library.  I really must find Detta's kobo.  I am sure it is on my desk but there is a foot high of "stuff", I mean "very important stuff" on it.  My four books consist of 2 hardback and 2 paperbacks.  If only I could find the kobo I could have downloaded these books and it would have been much lighter.  Then again I do have a google tablet, I am just not very good at using this technology.  My children just laugh at me!  The bunny did eat the power cable, anyways that is my excuse!

New Books

I am back at work today.  I left early yesterday, I had a swollen gland in my neck which was extremely painful.  I have been on antibotics since Friday evening and they have kicked in.  I feel so much better today.  At least the swelling has gone done and my neck is not so painful.

Anyways.....  I had a very nice surprise when I came to work this morning.  A co-worker of mine gave me two knitting books.  And the books were published in the last year.  What a great surprise!!  I have already noticed a very nice cardigan in one of them, that I may just knit for myself.  I don't usually knit cardigans; they just take so long to knit.

The other book, Knitting Bazaar has some lovely designs in it also.  I tend to use parts of one pattern and fit it into something else I am knitting.  I like to knit hats and mittens.

Lord of the Dance

Hugh took me to see Lord of the Dance at the GM Centre in Oshawa.  It was very good, we both enjoyed ourselves.  I would still like to see the River dance show if it every was on again.  I have never been to the GM Centre before, it is quite big.  The only down side was that it was very cold.  But I only found out half way through the show, that the ice was still in the rink!  I should have brought a sweater.

Funny enough, a co-worker of mine mentioned she was going also and then when Hugh and I were seated, she was sitting about 6 seats away from us!

There are no pictures yet of the entries for the Soper Creek Yarn contest.  I will put up a link as soon as they are posted.  Now I need to start a new project.  I have some lovely yarns that I have purchased for myself.  I keep starting a project but then I end up not liking it and ripping it.  I will have to decide on something.  I do have a number of projects to finish: the baby blanket (just sewing in the ends), the red mittens (needs the kitchner stitch done to the top) and my sister's mittens (I knit them for Christmas 2009 and never got around to sewing the ends in!).  Also my cousin's daughter just had a second baby girl so I need to do something and I know someone else having a baby boy in a month.

Getting ready for RDA

I was at Ryerson today.  I signed up for the workshop on RDA (Resource Description & Access).  It looks very interesting, not that I am cataloguing much these days.  The event was put on by the Canadian Library Association.  There were a lot of interesting people there.

It was a long day though.  I forgot my cheque book when I was parking so I had to rush home to get it and missed the train.  I took the GO Train into Toronto.  Then of course I lost my ticket when I got to the station in Toronto so I had to buy another one on the way home.

Hugh took Detta to have her hair done once again.  She had it straightened again.  Tomorrow Detta is off on her Gr. 8 graduation trip for four days.  I thought it might be nice for her to have her hair straigthened for the next few days.

RICN

I have started at RICN again in Whitby. They only need me for a couple days a week over the next month. It is a nice place to work, a lovely bunch of people.

Casual Job

What a surprise, I had a call last week from a previous job. They want me to come and work casual. This means of course I will only be called if someone is on holiday or sick so that just might not be very often. But it is a "permanent" casual job, how exciting.

Because it is a hospital and a permanent job, I had to do blood work, tb test, mask fit and I had a tetanus shot (which hurt). I hope I get called for holiday replacement soon, the pay is good.

Craigslist

Today I have been searching Craigslist for a desk. I am in the midst of redecorating my daughter's bedroom. I finally found a desk I liked so tonight we are going to Kensington Market to pick it up. Detta has a new bed and on Saturday, we are heading back to Ikea to buy the wardrobes for her. These wardrobes only have shelves in them so no more drawers. I am hoping this will help to keep her room tidier or is that just wishful thinking!!

I forgot to mention, the tacos were delicious the other night. I had a taco salad for lunch yesterday and today.

Another Interview

Had another interview today at a public library. I don't think it went well but my interview skills need improvement badly. It would be a great job, just 16 hours a week. With that and Seneca I would practically be working a full time job. The pay at Seneca needs improved though.

Tomorrow is the vote at Seneca for a union for part-time contract staff with OPSEU. I hope this will increase our wages. It would also be nice to have benefits, vacation pay and sick days. Well I certainly will be voting YES.

Today I must finish painting Detta's room. I have put on a second coat of the orange, I am just waiting to see how it turns out. I think I may have to put another coat of the purple on. I can't wait for it to be finished. Detta is sleeping in Donovan's room since we started so Donovan is sleeping with Hugh and I!!! Now it is going to be so difficult to get him back in his own bed. Donovan loves his Mummy!!
