Trip to Kincardine

Last week we popped up to Kincardine for a couple of days. We had one day at the Boiler Beach and then it rained for two days. Alex, Detta's friend from Toronto came with us. And we stayed at my friend Karen's house. They have a flat in the basement where Hugh, the boys and I stayed and the girls slept in Katie's old room.

It was a great day at the beach. The weather was cool, but that didn't stop us. There was no way I was going in the water but everyone else did, though not for too long. We ended up playing on the beach for ages. We started to divert the water run off but it took a long time. Everyone took long walks up and down the beach. It was very nice.

It is always amazing how the beach changes from year to year. This year the water level is really high. The old boiler, hence Boiler Beach, is actually in the water. I haven't seen that for a couple of years. It is so full of sand that there are plants growing out of it now. When I was little it was much further out in the water. I also saw sand pipers this year. They haven't been around the past few years but then there may have been too many people on the beach before. The beach was practically empty when we arrived but by later afternoon there must have at least 20 people.

We ran into Kim. I can't believe how grown up Deanie has become. All the kids got on great together. We came home Sunday and then Donovan wasn't feeling well so I stayed at home with him on Monday.

Interview and Detta's foot

Well I had an interview today for a Technical Services Technician position. I was very nervous as usual. I think it went well though but they are going to let everyone know on Friday. Only 3 people applied for the position.

Detta's foot is still hurting her. We went to the doctor yesterday and then had a X-ray done. The doctor said he would call if there was any problem. We haven't had any calls yet so no news must mean good news. So we had to call the skating club and arrange for a refund. I am so glad I asked for a doctor's note!! Now we will have to see if she will be okay for soccer camp next week. Some how I don't think her foot will be well enough for running on.

Canada Day & the Zoo

Yes, I know it was yesterday. We ended up going to the zoo. There was Hugh, myself, Detta, Miles, Donovan and Detta's friend, Alex. We went and saw the Stingray Bay. They also have sharks there this year. The sharks tended to keep to the middle of the water tank or under the water fall.

We also did a tour around the Kids Zone. Donovan of course hit his head twice. I don't think we go anywhere these days without Donovan banging some part of him.

Detta did synchro-skate summer camp this week, three days only. It's good she is keeping it up. After we get back from England, Detta will have two more weeks of skating. Yes, England, this Saturday. It has come up so fast. I haven't even started to pack yet. The boys also go to camp so I have been busy trying to organise all sorts of things. And then Donovan is having a birthday party on Saturday morning. Hugh must go out and buy loot bag this evening. Plus we have to get camp packages in the mail tomorrow!!! No wonder I feel exhausted and overwhelmed.

Donovan has really taken to swimming. Yesterday, Donovan put the life jacket on so he could play up near the deep end (at the side of the pool). Hugh then convinced Donovan to get in the water, he was scared at first but Hugh and Detta did a good job of getting Donovan to swim. He swam from the deep end into the shallow end several times. We will have to put him in some swimming lessons this fall.

Donovan's Birthday Day

Donovan was 7 yesterday. My little baby. He received some wonderful presents. Donovan has a Bumble Bee costume which he likes very much. Plus a transformer toy, some colouring stuff, a Star Wars sticker book and a dvd (from his Auntie Anne & cousins). Donovans choice for dinner was McDonalds but we also had Chinese food. The Chinese food was in celebration of Lizzy being accepted by Ryerson. We are very happy for her. Donovan is also having a birthday party on Saturday, lucky boy!!!

Summer has started. Detta is doing half days of skating this week, under protest, mind you. Miles has nothing for this week and Donovan is at daycare. The skating is a sychronized skating class. Fortunately they found another rink to have it at, as the Galaxy rink is closed due to the strike.

Donovan had an end of year party at his friend, Lexi's house. Donovan has on the bright pink swimming goggles. It was a wonderful day. Most of Donovan's Gr 1 class was there. He had a great time swimming. It is hard to believe, he only went into our pool at the end of last summer. I think it was due to Arrowhead Camp. He finally got the bug for swimming. I had such a hard time getting him out of the pool. This is Donovan with his favourite girl!!!
