New Dos

I forgot to mention Detta and I both had our hair done on Saturday.  I have gone for a really short style where as Detta has added red to hers.  That girl is starting to cost a lot for hair and she looks so grown up!!!!!  We stopped by Joan's to show her our new dos

Gr 8 Grad Trip

Detta's hair looks great.  She won't need to wash it for a few days.  I am going to have to try and have Detta let me do her hair.  It is just too expensive to be running to the hairdresser to have it straightened.

I dropped her off at the crack of dawn this morning.  Her Gr. 8 class is off on their graduation trip to Ottawa.  All the girls seemed to pack these enormous suitcases for 3 nights.  I can't even begin to imagine what they have packed but I think they are going to have a great time.  So it is just me and the boys for the next few days.

Knitting

I must get started on some of my knitting. I am knitting mittens as presents for Christmas this year. I have only managed to make one pair so far. I can usually knit a pair of mittens in a couple of days, depending on time but I have been very lazy so fair this year. I have decided I can only make them for my sisters plus a couple for Joan's visitors from Australia. I will also need to knit a couple of hats also.

Detta had her hair cut today. About 6 inches was taken off the back. We are now going to attempt to keep it straight. I don't know how this is going to work out but I will do it. Detta's hair looks fantastic though, she is also very pleased with it.

Post Wedding

Well it is the day after the wedding. Lisa looked beautiful and Peter very happy. I have so much to write, I think it may take a few days. Here at my desk I have a lovely bunch of flowers to look at for the next few days. I ended up with several of the table setting which I have taken apart and put in different vases.
The day started out early, Detta and I headed off to have our hair done. Mine was very quick, as it is short. The hair stylist thought it would be easier to straighten Detta's hair and then give it a trim. I thought so too but one and half hours later, I was thinking this was not so good an idea. Detta was in tears, I had to get a towel so she could wipe her eyes. Her hair has not been combed through properly, though she does brush it. I was on the phone to Hugh, to get everything in the van and be ready to go. On the way home I bought the children McDonalds for lunch. So Detta and I had 30 minutes to get dressed and ready to go plus Detta had to eat her lunch. Finally we were on our way.

There were a few stops on route mind you. The first was to buy petrol as we were under a quarter tank. Then just before the 401, we had our second. The kids all started shouting, 'there's a wasp in the candy'. Hugh and I didn't get it at first but we stopped. Yes there was a wasp inside the candy container. How it got in there I don't know. All the candy was in its own bags, nothing was loose. But the wasp flew away. Finally on the 401.

Then as we were just heading through Oshawa in the fast lane, this suv was really trying to overtake us. I mentioned to Hugh that this driver was going back and forth behind, all I thought was another crazy driver. Finally Miles says, 'I think that driver is trying to say something'. Hugh had a look and sure enough the other driver was pointing at the back of our van (not so crazy after all). So we pulled over in a safe spot and Hugh hopped out to have a look. Sure enough our back passenger tire was going flat. So we exited off the 401 and drove looking for a petrol station. There were none around and we drove past the next exit off the 401. Finally I saw a petrol station and we got some air. In the mean time I called Anne to let her know we had a half flat tire and could possibly be late for the wedding. Then we headed off. By Bowmanville, the van didn't seem right, so we stopped again to check the air pressure. All was okay, thank goodness.

Away we went to Bethany. Finally we made it to the church. I missed the turning, I can't believe I got lost in Bethany (looking later there was no street sign!!). Anne actually only arrived just before us. The church was very small. Detta, Miles and Donovan sat with their cousins in the second row but there was no room for Hugh and I so we sat in the front row. No one else was sitting in the front row and to top it off, the table and chair with the documents for the bride and groom to sign were right in front of us. The best part about our location is we had the occassional cool breeze.

Day off

I had a busy day for being off. I managed to deliver the hats for Donovan's teacher. So she should have them in a few days. I photocopied and delivered the forms for Donovan's and Miles' doctor appointment. We should have an appointment by September. I went and had my hair cut, not quite as short as I would like it. Afterwards I went the hair supply store at Pickering Town Centre and they had some rollers. They are all the same size and were on sale, bonus. Then I rushed back to the library as I had signed up to do a Job Interviewing Skills talk. It was very interesting and worthwhile.

Oh yes one of Donovans front teeth fell out yesterday. Well it didn't exactly fall out. While Donovan was eating dinner it became so wiggly he couldn't eat. It hurt also. Hugh finally convinced Donovan to allow him to pull it out. I gave Donovan a chocolate popiscle to eat and numb the area. It seemed to do the trick, Hugh managed to pull it out without much fuss. Now Donovan has a big hole in his mouth.

I made cheese and macaroni for dinner. It was delicious. Hugh and I had bacon in our batch. Miles and Donovan don't like the topping so this was divided between Detta, Hugh and I. And there is enough to have a bit at lunch tomorrow.

Mother's Day

Mother's Day went off well. I received lots of new plants from the children. Hugh bought me this beautiful cookie bouquet. It looks so pretty.

We had lots of people through. Kath, Andrew, Joan and Tom came for breakfast. We had blueberry pancakes and bacon made by Hugh which were delicious. Anne, Al and Lizzie then dropped by so Hugh started a second round of breakfast which was also delicious. In fact Lizzie assisted with the pancake cooking. Al's arm is doing better after his fail on Wednesday, he need surgery to put two pins in.

I am still knitting the baby blanket but it is not quite done yet. I needed a change though so I started knitting a cute hat for Al's great niece. It is in brown with two tones of pink. It looks so nice, in fact I am nearly done but because it is in stripes I have lots of ends to sew in. I might also knit this one for Donovan's teacher but in light brown so it looks like a teddy bear.

I had my hair cut yesterday. It looks terrible. I will see how it looks tomorrow but I think it will need rescued.

Hugh has been working very hard all afternoon. He has been helping Miles make the knight costume for his medieval project which is due on Tuesday. Now we just have to do the diorama. I love the plumage!
